English is accepted as the universal language of the current world and is on it's way to domiate the 6000 or so languages spoken worldwide driving many to extinction soon. In this TED video John McWhorter, Linguist and Columbia professor, gives us the reasons to learn a foreign toungue apart from the omni present English.
Watch another video, by Timothy Doner(a hyper-polyglot who knows around 20 languages) where he explains his "language journey"and why language in essence represents a cultural world view. As Tim says "In a language you can see the entire history of its people and you gain a appreciation of its society".
