Chanakya(b:374BCE - d:283BCE) is one of the prominent figures from Indian history. He was known to be a pioneer in the fields of Economics and Political Science and has authored two renonwed treatise - Arthashastra(Economics) and ChankayaNiti(on life and living). He is credited with assisting the Mauryan emperor Chandragupta in his rise to power and played a significant role in the establishment of the Maurya Empire. He is also known by the names Kauṭilya or Vishnugupta.

The story of Chanakya is depicted in a 47-part Indian television historical drama written and directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi that was originally telecast on National Television(Doordarshan) from 8Sept1991 to 9Aug1992. Dr.Dwivedi played the title role of "Chanakya".
